Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard Are Ready to “Use Our Voice” in Upcoming Memoir Counting the Cost

Jill Duggar is not holding back when it comes to her side of the story.
The daughter of Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar announced that she and her husband Derick Dillard are releasing an upcoming memoir, Counting The Cost, to give a look into filming the TLC series 19 Kids and Counting and the spinoff Counting On, which chronicled the lives of the controversial Duggar family until 2021. The memoir will be released January 2024.
"Thanks to time, tears, truth, and therapy, God has begun to heal our wounds into scars," Jill wrote on Instagram May 31. "Though we would have never chosen this path, and it has cost us dearly, we want to use our voice to show others that there is hope beyond the pain."
Jill said the memoir will detail the "painful journey" of being a part of the family, which has been previously sparked controversy for its strict following of the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP). IBLP is a non-denominational Christian organization founded by pastor Bill Gothard that teaches conservative religious beliefs, ones that have been criticized in the past as "cult-like" by Jill's sister Jinger.
The memoir will also tackle the TLC series' impact on Jill and Derick's lives before they quit reality television in 2017.
"The challenges we have faced, including lack of respect for boundaries, greed, manipulation, and betrayal, are not that much different than what many people in our audience have faced," she continued on Instagram. "However, 15+ years of reality television, undergirded by secrecy and lies, is tantamount to pouring gasoline on the fire of our struggle."
Her memoir announcement came two days before the bombshell docs-series Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets is scheduled for release June 2 on Prime Video. And viewers have already gotten a taste of the series with its jaw-dropping May 18 trailer.
"There's a story that's going to be told," Jill said in the clip. "And I would rather be the one telling it."
E! News reached out to the Duggar family, TLC and IBLP for comment on Jill's upcoming memoir but hasn't heard back.
